Girl Born With No Hands Wins Big in Writing Competition

You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to. I don’t want to hear ANY excuses as to why you can’t physically make something happen when a 7-year-old born without hands has the ability to teach herself how to write. Mindset is EVERYTHING! Her can-do attitude plus her desire to defy the odds granted her the desires of her heart, and in this case it was being able to write. Some may think her writing skills are “good” for someone with a disability well, they are wrong. Her penmanship is amazing!

Not to mention, this amazing little girl is only in the first grade.  At only 7 years old Anaya Ellick has not only made us a believer but she also recently became a winner in the Zaner-Bloser 2016 National Handwriting Competition.

To be specific, Anaya won the Nicholas Maxim Special Award for Excellence in Manuscript Penmanship. She was presented with a check for $1,000 and a trophy almost as tall as her. The category in which she won, is for individuals in kindergarten through eighth grade who have a cognitive delay, or an intellectual, physical or developmental disability.

Tracy Cox is the principal at Anaya’s school Greenbrier Christian Academy in Chesapeake, Virginia. She told ABC News that Anaya definitely exhibits  winning traits.

“She is a hard-worker,” Cox said. “She is determined. She is independent. She is a vivacious and a no-excuses type of young lady.”

Anaya is living proof that you can do anything you set your mind to. With faith, consistency, and hard work ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
