Hoop Dreams Turned Into Reality For Youth In Queens

When it comes to merging passion with purpose, Tyrone Nash, 27, of Queens, New York is doing just that.

Nash, a Notre Dame alum and current forward for Basketball Braunschweig in Germany, wanted to use his skills on the court in a more impactful way.

In 2013, Nash launched the annual Tyrone Nash Basketball Camp, which aims to instill and reestablish basic basketball skills and fundamentals.

Nash started the camp in an effort to provide a positive outlet for youth in his community, and gives credit to his late grandmother who was his main inspiration.

“This camp is in loving memory of my grandmother, Anne “Gooma” Nash. Gooma is actually an acronym of the qualities she instilled in me, which I aim to pass down to my campers, which are guidance, obedience, optimism and motivation,” says Nash. “It is my hope that each player walks away from camp with a better understanding and deeper love of the sport.”

This year, Nash is pleased to announce a partnership with Train2Last and Get Focused, who will emphasize the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle and the importance of education, both on and off the court.

“I’m excited to partner with two great sponsors this year and look forward to their contributions. We have a lot in store during the three-day camp,” says Nash. “It will consist of skill drills, scrimmages, giveaways and we will even have special guest NBA appearances.”
