Rae a graduate of Stanford University is best known as the creator of the YouTube web series “Awkward Black Girl,” before she inked her deal with HBO.

That #BlackGirlMagic just became more magical and sentimental as Issa Rae was honored a few days ago by her hometown, the City Of Los Angeles. Los Angeles City Hall celebrated Black History month with a specific focus on black women for “Black Women’s Day.” Issa Rae was presented with a plaque for her outstanding work as an actress and producer, as well as  her commitment to opening doors for people of color in the entertainment industry.

Dubbed a “local giant” by Los Angeles City Council Member Marqueece Harris-Dawson, who also stated to “Photoham” that “Insecure” is a show that showcases “who we are , where we live, and how we live together.” Issa Rae took to social media to express how honored she is to be recognized by the City of Los Angeles.
