By now we all know about the #BlackGirlMagic Jo-Issa (“Issa” Rae) Diop shared with the world when she created the hit HBO series “Insecure.” For those who do not know of all the magic that is Issa Rae, she is an actress, writer, director, and producer! Rae a graduate of Stanford University is best known as the creator of the YouTube web series “Awkward Black Girl,” before she inked her deal with HBO.
That #BlackGirlMagic just became more magical and sentimental as Issa Rae was honored a few days ago by her hometown, the City Of Los Angeles. Los Angeles City Hall celebrated Black History month with a specific focus on black women for “Black Women’s Day.” Issa Rae was presented with a plaque for her outstanding work as an actress and producer, as well as her commitment to opening doors for people of color in the entertainment industry.
Dubbed a “local giant” by Los Angeles City Council Member Marqueece Harris-Dawson, who also stated to “Photoham” that “Insecure” is a show that showcases “who we are , where we live, and how we live together.” Issa Rae took to social media to express how honored she is to be recognized by the City of Los Angeles.
